Although public school is the most common way to educate
children, it is by no means the only option available to
parents. In addition to public school, you may choose to
send your children to a private school or to school them
yourselves.
Public and private schools must follow a curriculum that
meets governmental standards. Nest to that they share few
similarities. Private schools naturally are expensive;
however, they offer a higher quality of education. Private
schools offer a lower student to teacher ratio, more extra
curricular activities and usually more educated
instructors.
It has been proven that wearing school uniforms add to the
self respect of students. Uniforms remove one of the
elements of teasing from school as well as a major conflict
between child and parent. Even though parents have to
purchase a few school uniforms this usually adds up to cost
far less than buying a huge wardrobe that they feel is
needed to fit in at a public school. Private schools also
have the tendency to be safer and to follow more strict
standards of discipline. Because of a scholarly atmosphere
these students usually end up as achievers who's sight is
set firmly on college.
Many people, however, cannot afford the cost of sending
their children to private school no matter the benefit.
Due to the fact that most of the nation's youth are being
educated in over crowded and under funded public schools
that are not offering a very high quality of education. In
fact students are more in danger than they are receiving an
education. This situation must change.
If private schools are beyond your means, and public
schools are unappealing there is one final option available
to you; home schooling for your children. Under the home
schooling system the parent directs the child's education.
The home school environment can be more controlled and more
responsive to your child's needs but it can also be a little
isolating. If you choose to home school your children you
should take great pains to involve them in sports teams or
other activities with children their own age. Home schooled
children often advance very quickly and achieve high levels
of academic success; however, they can have difficulty
adjusting to the school system once they reenter it. For
this reason it is usually advisable to enroll them in at
least a few classes which model the typical school
environment before they reenter a traditional school. Some
children are home schooled right up to the university level.
These children usually have tremendous difficulty making
the transition to the school environment. They do, however,
tend to high levels of academic excellence.
