A College Education Opens the World for You

A college education provides you with new means and opens
door for opportunities in life. It increases your ability
to understand developments in science and society. It helps
you to think logically and critically. With education you
can express your thoughts clearly in speech and in writing.
It helps you to achieve new horizons in life and earn a
high salary. A college education increases your
understanding of the society, commuity, the nation and the
world. You can explores new interests, discover new areas
of knowledge, become a responsible citizen and contribute
towards betterment of the society.

New technologies require an educated work force.Farming and
industry, the businesses of the past, required strength. No
longer. If you want to compete in this technical arena,you
must have the education required.Even if you decide against
a four year degree,there are programs that will lead you to
degrees or certification in the field that are currently in
demand. These programs can offer you an associate degree in
arts or applied sciences,which will lead to licenses in the
field you are pursuing.There are different types of schools
that offer many different types of specialized education:

Colleges of Liberal Arts

These offer a standard,generalized degrees in the sciences,
social science and the humanities.Liberal Arts colleges are
either public or private They offer Bachelor of Arts,(B.A.)
Bachelor of Science, (B.S.) or Bachelor of Applied Science.

Community Colleges (Sometimes known as Junior Colleges)

Junior colleges are two year programs leading to Associate
Degrees.They are full time programs and usually concentrate
on a technical type of studies that lead to employment in
a field that's currently in demand.They also offer academic
programs and community education courses, but concentrate
on courses that prepare a student for the job market. These
programs most frequently are managed by state,or the county
or local governments, and are usually affiliated with firms
in the community, or public organizations or industries.The
courses offered are usually technical in nature, and should
normally include such fields as lab technicians,medical and
phlebotomy (blood) techs,computer technicians and the like.

Technial colleges

Specialzed colleges or technical colleges provides
education and training in technical fields and prepare you
for a specific career. These colleges provide education in
arts, music, health, science, agriculture, business,
teaching and other technical fields. These colleges may be
public or private.

Colleges are also differentiated on the basis of sex,
religion, public and private colleges. These are:

Same Sex Colleges

These colleges were formed in the days when boys, and girls
had to be separated in the educational environment. Quite a
few ivy league colleges remained men or women only schools.

Colleges with Religious Affiliations

Colleges such as this are connected with a certain religion
that offer standard courses,and also religious instruction.

Public versus Private Colleges

The main difference between these two types of colleges are
how they are funded.Public colleges get some of their funds
from the government.Private colleges are funded by tuition.

When a student completes a four year college,he or she will
receive a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science.He or she
will take a battery of tests in the different courses to
receive this degree.You have to have a bachelor's degree to
continue study towards a Masters or further.Deciding on the
right college for you is a matter of your goals,and desires
and then find the school that meets it,that you can afford.
