Choosing Your Electronics Wisely
by Richard Schmit

If you~re not familiar with the ins and outs of
electronics, and what all the lingo means, you~re not
alone. Buying electronics can be a very confusing
process if you don~t know what questions to ask and
what to look for. It~s very easy to get confused
when being confronted with pushy salespeople who
claim they know what~s best for you. By
understanding a few simple concepts you can
approach your next electronics purchase with
confidence.

When it comes to electronics, those with brand
name are often more expensive than brands that
aren~t as well known. When it comes right down to
it, buying a well known brand name is a better idea
than buying an unknown brand. This is because
brand name electronics can offer you a warrantee
that is better than most warrantees, making it easier
for you to get your electronics repaired if the need
arises. Repair shops will usually have parts for
brand names in stock while parts for lesser known
brands will need to be ordered. Another thing to
remember is that brand names usually are built with
high quality in mind.

If you have found a television, home stereo system,
or other piece of electronics you~re interested in,
user reviews and ratings are a great way to get an
idea of what others thought when they got the same
product home. Be sure to read several reviews to
get a good idea of the pros and cons of each
product. This is also an excellent way to compare
two similar models. There are many websites that
offer reviews on a wide range of electronics.

Each year there are new and exciting new electronic
products that hit the market. There are many people
that always need to have the latest toys that reach
the stores. If you don~t know much about
electronics, and many times even if you do, buying
the latest electronics can be a big mistake. Wait for
a couple of months until the product has been tested
and rated by consumers since you want to make
sure the product has no flaws before buying. As an
example, there are some consumer critics who think
the plasma TV won~t be such a hit anymore once
people find out that one of the most important parts
of the TV can~t be replaced once it wears out.

Before you buy any new electronics you should
have some idea of how they work. For example, if
you~re looking for a computer you~ll have to know
a bit about the speed of the CPU that you want and
the amount of RAM that your new computer will
need. The same can be said of speakers for your
stereo. Speakers are all about watts, and the more
that you know about the electronics you~re buying
the better armed you are to buy the right product.

Shopping for electronics can be a very daunting
experience, but with a little research and know-how
you~ll be able to ask salespeople the right questions,
and leave the store with just what you came for.
